Future Implications

What does the future hold for social media and how it’s used for business?  What are the next big trends and how can a company get in on them from the start?  We all know how important social media is today with increasing brand awareness, engaging would be and existing customers and promoting your products and services.  “Social media especially is constantly changing, and in 2017, experts predict a potentially more substantial shift than in the past. Social may just take over the marketing industry as a whole, and many promising features are poised to catch attention for brands among consumers.” (Johansson, 2016)

This video provides some insight into the upcoming trends on Social Media, and one interesting trend I took away from it was how video was going to take over the internet.  So if you or your company is not on board with video, you better get yourself acclimated quickly and get ready to use it. “Tying back to the demand for video content, 45% of our survey respondents watch an hour or more of video content on Facebook and YouTube a week. Our data shows most people pay close attention to video, which means savvy marketers can leverage videos to put out powerful, high quality content that speaks for their brand offerings.” (An, 2016)

Between Facebook live, YouTube and short videos on Twitter there are many options to choose from.  You don’t need to invest a ton of money creating an elaborate production, keep it simple and make it unforgettable but get involved in it.  “Snapchat is perfect for real-time social media marketing because it can give the audience direct access to live events. You can use it for product launches, trade shows or one-of-a-kind events like the 1,000th customer to shop in your store. Snapchat gets your audience excited because you’re providing a different, more authentic view of what’s going on at the event.” (Talbot, 2015)

Let’s face it most people under the age of 40 spend a large amount of time on some sort of a mobile device checking their social media accounts, watching videos and sharing them, interacting with their friends and even complete strangers, tweeting about the local sports team, the latest product they are using or what’s happening in the world, they are the perfect captive audience.  However, you better keep them interested or they will move on quickly to someone who can.
